Ziyang Wang, 23, was behind the wheel of a BMW X5 M50i that collided with a Kia Amanti after it came around a blind curve on the wrong side of Paterson Plank Road, just south of Congress Street, on Oct. 16, 2023, authorities said at the time.
Wang had four other people in the car with him, two of whom died in the crash along with the Kia driver, Dylan Weidenfeld, 26, of Jersey City, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities never identified the male and female backseat passengers who were killed.
A 19-year-old woman was in the back seat with them survived critical injuries, they said. A front seat female passenger sustained injuries that, like Wangβs, werenβt life-threatening, they added.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced on Friday, Feb. 2, that a grand jury in Jersey City handed up an indictment in the case on Jan. 11.
The prosecutor didnβt explain why she kept that information from the public for nearly a month.
The indictment charges Wang with three counts each of aggravated manslaughter, reckless manslaughter and death by auto.
He's also charged with aggravated assault and assault by auto for the injuries sustained by the passenger who was critically injured.
Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor John Burke secured the indictment.
